(DURHAM) -- The business community of North Carolina is looking for funding sources as the economy improves.  A workshop at North Carolina Central University on Monday was designed to help small business and municipalities take advantage of opportunities.

Sen. Kay Hagan's office worked with Congressman David Price to put on the workshop. Hagan said workshops like this are valuable resources. "To really help municipalities, small businesses, groups to look at how to get grants and funding from the federal government whether it's in the Small Business Administration, whether it's the Department of Energy, there are so many different avenues," said Hagan.

Hagan also said she wants to make sure that North Carolina takes advantage of business opportunities when it comes to defense.   Ft. Bragg and Camp Lejeune are among the top five largest bases in the nation.

Congressman Price said there are many that can help get these monetary opportunities to the right places. "We really are in all of this together, federal, state and local government does need to stand ready to support these groups and these advocates," said Price.
