(RALEIGH) -- The National Federation of Independent Business claims new proposed federal regulations will crush North Carolina’s small businesses and weaken the state’s economy.  The organization plans a news conference in Raleigh on Tuesday, Sept. 27 to outline what they say could threaten the ability of small businesses to operate and create jobs.

“Right now, U.S. businesses spend an average of $10,585 per employee to comply with federal regulations, and it’s worse if you’re a small business,” said Gregg Thompson, state director of NFIB/North Carolina. “According to the Small Business Administration, small businesses spend almost 36 percent more per employee on compliance."

The Environmental Protection Agency is considering upwards of 300 new regulation that would affect everything from farms to schools, according to Thompson.

“We’re asking Washington to use some common sense when it comes to regulations and stop making it even harder for small businesses to grow and create jobs.”
