(RALEIGH) -- A new movie based on a blockbuster series of books was filmed entirely in North Carolina, and it could bring a cult following of tourists to the state. State film industry officials say "The Hunger Games" is the highest-profile movie ever made here.

It was filmed in rural and urban areas from Asheville through Charlotte. North Carolina Film Office Director Aaron Syrett said there's a new visitors guide that shows film locations and hangouts frequented by the stars.

"The North Carolina Office of Tourism has put together a kind of an itinerary where you can go visit the sites where they made the movie," said Syrett.

Syrett estimates that filmmakers spent $60 million in North Carolina while shooting the movie. "Hunger Games" premieres on March 23rd.
