HENDERSONVILLE - ASG (AGI Shorewood) will expand its manufacturing operations in Henderson County.  The company plans to create 50 new jobs in North Carolina and invest more than $8.5 million in East Flat Rock.

“We’re doing all that we can to encourage the growth and expansion of our existing companies,” said Governor Pat McCrory.  “This announcement is another example of the strong business climate and quality of life that we offer our manufacturing partners.  ASG has found a great place to do business in Henderson County.”

ASG is a global packaging company that specializes in the development of innovative solutions for the consumer products segment. The company will be adding new positions in the press room, die-cutting, gluing, digital pre press, customer service, production planning and shipping and receiving. ASG anticipates the expansion will help the East Flat Rock facility achieve heightened production efficiencies, increase manufacturing volume and bolster existing packaging offerings to help serve customers in the entertainment, personal care, health care and pharmaceutical segments.

“Global manufacturers like ASG recognize that our state has the skilled workforce they need to succeed,” said Commerce Secretary Sharon Decker. “We’re thrilled to see another international company reinvesting in North Carolina.”

“This expansion signifies an optimistic future for our company and is a reflection of the extremely talented workforce here. This facility continues to demonstrate an unrivaled customer focus and drive for continuous improvement. Our work gives us tremendous pride. We have the opportunity to be involved in packaging solutions for the world’s most recognizable consumer products which often include household headache medication, toothpaste containers, even specialty-embossed Blu-ray ™ disc covers,” said Bob Lennon, vice president, supply chain and general manager of ASG.

Salaries will vary by job function, but the average annual wage for the new jobs will be more than $40,000.  The average annual wage in Henderson County is $34,528.

The project was made possible in part by a $62,500 grant from the One North Carolina Fund. The grant is contingent upon proof of job creation and receipt of a local funding match. The One NC Fund provides financial assistance, through local governments, to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create new jobs in the state. Companies receive no money up front and must meet job creation and investment performance standards to qualify for grant funds.

“North Carolina continues to attract more quality manufacturing jobs thanks to our talented workforce and top-notch job training programs,” said Sen. Tom Apodaca. “We’re excited that ASG is growing once again in Henderson County.”

“This expansion is wonderful news for Henderson County,” said Rep. Chuck McGrady. “I would like to thank the team effort at the state and local level for working together to bring more well-paying jobs to our state.”

"I am extremely pleased that AGI Shorewood is expanding its manufacturing operation in Henderson County and look forward to working with them and other job providers for many years to come,” said Rep. Chris Whitmire. “My office remains focused on job creation and will continue to work with local economic development entities, Secretary Decker, Governor McCrory, and the Legislature to bring additional jobs to the area."

Other partners who assisted with this announcement include: the N.C. Department of Commerce, N.C. Community Colleges, Henderson County and the Henderson Partnership for Economic Development.
