CHARLOTTE -- Whether you are a frequent flyer or only travel once a year, airport security may now be quicker for qualified passengers. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) created a pre-check program to make airport security checks more efficient for those that qualify.
A spokesperson for TSA, Sari Koshetz, said the program costs $85 for a five year period.
"What's different about the TSA pre-check process is that you won't have to take off your shoes, your belt, your light outer jacket," Koshetz said. "You won't have to take your laptop out of its case at the checkpoint."
Koshetz said applicants must be a U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident, and cannot have been convicted of certain crimes. She added that the program will allow airports to focus their efforts.
"By making the process quicker for some passengers and knowing more about them before they come to the checkpoint, it gives us a chance to focus on those we know less about," Koshetz said.
