Gov. Touts Economic Benefit Of Democratic Convention

(CHARLOTTE) -- Democratic Party officials wrapped up their two-day visit to Charlotte as they looked over the Queen City as a potential host for the party's National Convention in 2012. Gov. Bev Perdue said if Charlotte lands the Democratic National Convention, it will bring more than just political benefits.

N.C. Municipalities Cut Spending, Leave Taxes Alone

(RALEIGH) -- With more than a quarter of the surveys in hand from a North Carolina League of Municipalities survey, indications are that cities across the state are filling budget gaps by cutting expenses rather than raising taxes. The organization sends out the annual survey to get a sense of cities’ fiscal health.

Sonic Automotive Profit Up 41%

(CHARLOTTE) -- Sonic Automotive, Inc. reported its second quarter adjusted earnings from continuing operations were $15.6 million. This is up 41% from adjusted earnings from continuing operations in the same period in 2009. The Charlotte-based company saw new vehicle sales increased 19% in the quarter and sale of used vehicles increased 23%.
