(RALEIGH)- While North Carolina is seeing $150 million more in revenue than expected, Governor Easley says that's not enough to keep up with the state's growth, so his budget proposal includes several cuts. However, the Governor says despite a downturn in the economy, he's not willing to see an educational downturn.

State Employees Unhappy With Governor's Budget PDF Print E-mail

(RALEIGH)- The State Employees Association is not happy with the 1.5% raise Governor Easley is recommending in his budget for state workers. He started his budget news conference off by praising the state transportation department workers who helped clear roads after the tornados in eastern North Carolina. But Ardis Watkins with the State Employees Association says he then ignored them by offering a 1.5% cost of living raise and a one time $1 thousand bonus.

Tornados Hit NC Sunday PDF Print E-mail
(RALEIGH)- As many as 16 tornados swept through North Carolina on Sunday. In Bertie County, a twister  hit a mobile home park. Nine people were injured. In Onslow County, near the Jones County line, a tornado hit another mobile home park, injuring six people. A convenience store that had withstood Hurricanes Floyd and Fran was flattened by the tornado. Luckily the employee inside was able to get out safely.  A church in Ahoskie was moved off its foundation by another tornado. Governor Easley says damage assessment teams are trying to figure out how many buildings suffered structural damage in the rash of storms.

Story of Albermarle Sound PDF Print E-mail

(ELIZABETH CITY) --A new signature exhibit opened at an Elizabeth City museum this weekend -- to tell the story of the Albermarle Sound over thousands of years. The 6,200 square foot "Our Story" exhibit at The Museum of the Albermarle includes more than 750 artifacts which takes visitors through time -- including the settling of the Lost Colony and when Blackbeard the Pirate roamed the seas and finally to today.

Rail promoted as cost-effective travel option PDF Print E-mail

(RALEIGH) -- Saturday is National Train Day and open houses are being held at train stations all across the state. Officials say the events will help raise awareness of North Carolina’s passenger rail service by encouraging citizens to visit their nearest train station for schedule and trip planning information.
