Ellen grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and went to school in Virginia. She has a B.A. in Telecommunications with a minor in Political Science. She's been in radio since 1980, going from a country D.J. in Pulaski to an anchor/reporter in Roanoke and Richmond. She's won several awards for her work, including the Douglas Southall Freeman Award for Public Service Through Radio Journalism. She was in television news for 3 years, then went back to her first love, radio. She free lanced at WTOP in Washington before joining NCNN.
Bruce Ferrell - Anchor/Reporter
Bruce Ferrell has spent more than two decades as a broadcast and print journalist in the Carolinas and has been on the NCNN staff since August, 1998.
Bruce currently anchors afternoon and Saturday newscasts and also is the host and producer for "North Carolina Report", a weekly half hour public affairs program that focuses on state issues and trends.
As News Division Manager for WRHI/WRHM/WVSZ radio stations in Rock Hill, South Carolina, he led a news department that won more than three dozen awards from the Radio and Television News Directors' Association and the South Carolina Broadcasters' Association.
He also managed news operations at WBZK Radio in York, South Carolina, and served as News/Sports Editor for the Press and Banner newspaper in Abbeville, South Carolina. He has also covered high school sports for The Charlotte Observer and business issues in South Carolina for the Business Journal of Charlotte.
Bruce is a community journalist who has covered many topics including government, health care, education, economic development and tourism. A graduate of Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina, Bruce also attended the Institute for Political Journalism at Georgetown University in Washington, DC.
David Horn - Morning News Anchor
David is a North Carolina native with broadcast news experience in every region of the state. He enjoys bringing his knowledge of the state to the morning anchor desk.
His radio career started in 1981 in his hometown of Forest City. After graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill, David continued working at WCHL and the Tarheel Sports Network in Chapel Hill. He later programmed a music and local news intensive station in Greenville before moving on to Morehead City. After a stop in the Greenville/Spartanburg, South Carolina market, David returned to Raleigh.
His work in programming music, news and sports radio formats over the years has brought recognition from the Associated Press and State and community leaders. David says, “It’s an honor to be part of a network operation I’ve admired since the first day I started in the radio business."
On the weekends in the fall, David travels the country with the East Carolina University football team. He gets the schools radio network on-the-air as a freelance engineer/producer for ISP Sports.
David married a Greenville, NC girl in 1993. They live in the Triangle with their dogs/children, Muffin and Sissy. David and his wife enjoy traveling the State and the region in their RV.
