Looking Past Brickyard History

(UPDATE) -- Hendrick Motorsports driver Kyle Busch holds a ninth ranking in the point standings heading into the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard this weekend. Last year he led eight laps and cam in seventh. "I could have been better than that, but you know this year we'll go back there with a better racecar I'm sure and hopefully have a flawless day on pit road and be able to get out of there with about a fifth or maybe even a win," said Busch.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway is rich in history, but Busch tries not to let that detract from the task at hand. "For myself you kind of just have to put that stuff behind you and get down to business and what it's and what it's made out to be and that's to try and win the race." Busch learned this from teammate Jeff Gordon. "Jeff he went there just trying to race the race and try to win, but he's done it four times, so he's one of the best ones there." Gordon is tied for second in Indy's all-time wins.

The DEI Shuffle Begins

(MOORESVILLE) -- Dale Earnhardt Incorporated is absorbing Ginn Racing in a merger deal. This immediately give DEI a four-car team. DEI will add the number one Chevrolet, which is co-driven by Mark Martin and rookie Aric Almirola. Martin will drive the number one car under the DEI banner this weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

DEI will take the season points from Ginn's number 14 team and apply them to their number 15 with Paul Menard behind the wheel. The number 14 has been driven this season by Sterling Marlin, but he was released from his duties last week. Ginn also released Joe Nemecheck and dissolved the number 13 team.

Moving forward, there was a report that Mark Martin was on the short list of possibilities to replace Dale Earnhart Jr. in the number 8 car next season when Earnhardt leaves for Hendrick Motorsports. The Charlotte Observer confirmed Wednesday that Martin and Almirola will continue sharing driving duties in the number 1 car next year and that DEI's search for an Earnhart replacement continues.
