Gordon Takes His 77th Win |
Gordon Wins Talladega (TALLADEGA, AL) -- Jeff Gordon took the checkered flag in the Aaron's 499 at Talladega, breaking a tie with the late Dale Earnhardt for sixth place on NASCAR's all-time career victory list. "He was a master here. I feel like I learned everything that I know about restrictor plate racing from him," said Gordon.Gordon won under caution. Some fans showed their dissatisfaction by pelting the track with bottle, cans and anything else they could get their hands on. Talladega is Earnhardt country and many fans wanted to see Dale Earnhardt Junior take the win. "We worked our butts off trying to get up there. We wasn't no match for pretty much the whole top 10 there," said Earnhardt. Junior had to settle for 7th place. Gordon teammate Jimmie Johnson came in second. He credits teamwork to the one/two Hendrick finish. "There were times where Jeff, myself and Casey both could have chosen a different lane and it would have hurt us all, but we kept each other up there and we did a good job of taking care of one another," said Johnson. |

Inside HMS With Owner Rick Hendrick |

(UPDATE) -- Hendrick Motorsports has won five of the last six Nextel Cup races. "All of our guys have put a lot of effort in and we've had a little to go along with being at the right place at the right time. It's been a good start for us," said HMS Owner, Rick Hendrick.
He is guarded against peaking too early in the season. "Would I like to have this kind of momentum in the last 10? If I could swap it I absolutely would." The Nextel Cup points leader is Hendrick driver Jeff Gordon. He's poised to make more history with his next win. It will be the 77th of his career. The 2007 season is still young, but could the four-time Cup champion take a fifth title this season? "The team is plenty good to win it. We know Jeff is capable. Stevie (Steve Letarte) and Jeff are clicking, but so are Chad (Knaus) and Jimmie (Johnson) and Tony (Stewart) and Junior (Dale Earnhardt Jr.) and a lot of other people," said Hendrick. |
