Gordon Has A Conversation With NASCAR's Chief |
|
(PHOENIX, AZ) -- Jeff Gordon had one of the hardest crash impacts of his career in Sunday's UAW-Dodge 400. He was sore on Monday, but that didn't stop him from testing at Phoenix International Raceway. "I felt like I was doing crunches all day 'cause my stomach muscles were really sore," said Gordon.
After his crash on Sunday he told NASCAR President Mike Helton the section of wall he hit at Las Vega Motor Speedway was not a "soft wall" like much of the other portions of the wall at LVMS. He told Helton this wall section should be fixed. "It's an unfortunate situation, but I hope that something good can come out of this situation where we recognize that those areas need to have soft walls." Apparently the isolated area of the wall Gordon hit is designed to allow the entry and exit of emergency crews and it is not a "soft wall." Officials at LVMS have indicated to Gordon that they intend to take a look at the issue. "We'll be pretty upset if we go back there again and they haven't fixed it." Gordon said on Monday he was just lucky that some of the impact of his Sunday crash was absorbed by hitting the wall at an angle. "I want to make sure that no matter what angle you hit it at, you can walk away." |

Edwards Flips Two Weeks In A Row |
|
(LAS VEGAS, NV) -- Carl Edwards won his second consecutive race to take the points lead in the Sprint Cup Series and do his trademark victory back flip off his car door. He managed to avoid a pit road penalty and a crash filled race for his ninth career victory. He gave credit to having the car of all cars. "Man that was the best car, I think. That was a really good car. I wouldn't trade anybody cars. That was a good one," said Edwards.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. came in second and agreed that Edwards had the best car in Sunday's field. "Carl wasn't going to get beat today and it was just good to put one in the bag after last week. I so desperately wanted just to finish where I think the car was capable of finishing and we did today," said Earnhardt. Edwards' teammate, Greg Biffle, took a third place finish on Sunday with what he called the best car. He said what won it for Edwards was his ability as a driver. "He ended up finishing in front of us because he used his head and he drove his cars as fast as he could get his car to go and kept his track position," said Biffle. Kevin Harvick ran right behind Biffle, finishing fourth followed by Jeff Burton finishing fifth. The next stop for the Cup Series is Atlanta after two days of testing this week at Phoenix. |
