A Three-race Winning Streak For Gordon? |
Jeff Gordon (UPDATE) -- Chase leader Jeff Gordon is coming off of two consecutive wins as the Cup Series moves to Martinsville this weekend. Gordon has not won there since 2005, but he leads all active drivers with seven Martinsville wins. "Ya know everybody is talking, Martinsville, oh, that's your track, that's your track. We're going to Martinsville with the same attitude, the same game plan to come out of there with a strong, consistent finish," said Gordon.Gordon raced teammate Jimmie Johnson to the Martinsville finish line in the spring to take a second place finish. He has five poles, 17 top-fives and 23 top-10s at Martinsville. "We're not going there saying this is our place to get another win. We just want to go there and keep doing what we've been doing to stay consistent." Gordon has the second highest rating at Martinsville, but Tony Stewart, who is fourth in points right now, rates first at the short track. There is the potential for a Chase shuffle this weekend. |

Some Drivers Down But Not Out |
|
(UPDATE) -- It is the halfway point in the Chase and everyone knows that four-time series champion Jeff Gordon holds the top ranking and his teammate and reining champion Jimmie Johnson is number two, but what about everybody else? Sixth ranked Kyle Busch is happy for Jeff, but he's not giving up on landing his first championship. "He (Jeff Gordon) has the most of all active drivers right now anyway," said Busch. "For Jimmie to have two, that would mean a lot to him, I'm sure, but to anybody else out there, it would be nice just to get one."
Fifth ranked Carl Edwards knows why Gordon is running for his fifth championship. "They run so well. They minimize the mistakes. That's all we have to do," said Edwards. Third ranked Clint Bowyer summed up the Chase for everybody but Gordon and Johnson. "It ain't gonna take top 10's anymore it's gonna take top-fives and wins," said Bowyer. The second half of the Chase begins at Martinsville this weekend were Jimmie Johnson is looking for a season sweep at the short track. |
