(CHARLOTTE) -- The NASCAR Nextel Cup Pit Crew Challenge on Wednesday kicks off All Star Challenge Week at Lowes Motor Speedway. Robbie Reiser, Crew Chief for Matt Kenseth's number 17, leads one of the top pit crews in the series. "We actually have trainers hired that are on staff. We have pit crew coaches that are on staff," said Reiser.
It's not a football team, but it sounds like one. "They are required to work out everyday, and then they have a pit stop practice three times a week. There's one day that's set aside for just looking at films from the previous race so we can pick out things that we want to work on." This sort of regiment is why a lot of former college football players end up joining pit crews and doing quite well. Reiser says the number 17 crew has a lot of veterans who put a lot of dedication into their efforts. "They show it every week they go out on the race track." The Pit Crew Challenge features 24 teams Wednesday night at Bobcats Arena in Charlotte. The event is open to the public.
