(UPDATE) -- It was 1997 when Kyle Petty had his last top-five finish in a Cup Series race. A third place finish for him in Sunday's Coca-Cola 600 almost overshadowed Casey Mears' first Cup Series win. Petty is still moving forward with his plans to trade his helmet for a TV headset. "I'm going to enjoy the TV stuff just by being in the booth, but I'm going to enjoy watching Petty Enterprises for a few races," said Petty.

He will immediately begin preparing for his role as a commentator on TNT for five races starting with Pocono on June 10th. Petty seem quite content with where he is and where he is headed. "I would not change the struggles or a lot of the stuff. I'd change one thing and I'm sure everybody knows what that is." He is referring to the death of his son, Adam, seven years ago.

Petty is busy, running Petty Enterprises, supporting a camp for kids, and now being a television commentator. "Come back in four or five years and nobody will even probably want me comin' around or hangin' around, so I've got to make hay while I can right now." The veteran certainly displays a humble attitude.
