The Race To The Chase Begins PDF Print E-mail

Image(UPDATE) -- Sunday's race at New Hampshire International Speedway marks the first of ten events before the top-12 cut-off for the ten race Chase for the NASCAR Nextel Cup Championship. Jamie McMurray is just outside the top-12 as he continues adjusting to a new crew and crew chief. "This year with Larry (Carter) and pretty much a new team, we kind of started over," said McMurray. He is looking to climb back into the top-12 from 14th in the standings.

Meanwhile, Dale Earnhardt Jr. enters this weekend ranked 12th. He believes the new Car of Tomorrow is not that big of a question anymore. "The COT is becoming less of a factor. It more just about what kind of luck you got," said Earnhardt.

One of the Chase contenders with a good chance of winning on Sunday is Jeff Burton. "A lot is made about momentum and a lot is made about confidence, but confidence is earned one corner at a time. It's not earned one week at a time," said Burton. He leads all drivers with four New Hampshire wins.
