Tony Stewart in victory lane. (JOLIET, IL) -- Tony Stewart took his first win of the season at the U-S-G Sheetrock 400 at Chicagoland Speedway on Sunday. Jimmie Johnson and Stewart battled early, then Johnson crashed, leaving Stewart at or near the front for most of the race. "This was awesome. It's a good way to start your last off week. You leave and you start your vacation on a high note and you come back to a place that's special to me on a high note," said Stewart.Matt Kenseth ran second. He tried to pass Stewart late in the race. "We ran side-by-side for a lap or two. I just couldn't finish the pass, at least very pretty, so I just had to try and wait and get him later and he was just too strong for us," said Kenseth. Carl Edwards came in third. He has his on one thing, making the Chase. "Once we get to that point, I feel like we can win that championship. We've got the team, we've got the performance right now. We've just got to keep running like this," said Edwards. Rounding out the top five on Sunday is Kevin Harvick and Casey Mears. The Cup Series takes the week off before returning to action at the Brickyard.
