(UPDATE) -- Martin Truex Jr. is holding his own as a Chase contender, but just barely. He is ranked 11th in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series standings. "We want to run well and finish up front no matter what the case is. Obviously we want to get into the Chase and once we get in it, we want to be able to contend for that championship," said Truex.

He is ranked just ahead of DEI teammate Dale Earnhart Jr. Truex may end up being the best thing going for DEI after Dale Jr. leaves DEI for Hendrick Motorsport next season. "They are doing a great job for me right now and I want to do all I can do to get us up there and make the Chase and then compete for that championship."

Truex fell one spot in the standings after a 39th place finish on Sunday with just seven more races to make the Chase. "Performance over the next seven races is critical, not only to get in it but to be competitive once we're in it."
