Jeff Gordon (BROOKLYN, MI) -- While rain has put a damper on the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series at Michigan, points leader Jeff Gordon is already looking ahead to the Chase For The Nextel Cup. Even the worst case scenario cannot keep Gordon from the Chase. At this point, once a driver is 586 points ahead of the 13th place driver, he clinches a spot in the Chase. Gordon become the first driver to lock in a slot in the Chase this early. "I'm really excited about taking this entire team into this Chase," said Gordon. "I feel like we've got an excellent chance to get our fifth championship, our first Nextel Cup, but it's gonna be a fight, it's gonna to be a real fight."Gordon is proud of his team's consistency this season, but he knows that's not enough. "You always want to be better ya know that's the thing. You can't ever stop trying to improve." Several other drivers are on the verge of locking in an early Chase slot. They include Denny Hamlin, Matt Kenseth, and Tony Stewart. Gordon knows any one of these drivers could take the championship. "It's just going to be a fight every single week and for 10 weeks straight."
