(UPDATE) -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. wants his fans to lay off of the criticism of his soon to be former boss, DEI owner, Teresa Earnhardt. "She hasn't done anything intensionally detrimental to me," said Dale Jr. "The stuff that I read on the internet and the stuff that I'm hearing that's going on, the remarks about her, directed toward her, I don't think anybody deserves that."

Teresa Earnhardt holds the rights to the number eight and Dale Jr. will race without the famous digit when he moves to Hendrick Motorsports next year. He believes this is no reason to treat Teresa with disrespect. "I just think everybody needs to lay off a little bit, because she was married to my daddy, and I know he wouldn't be too happy about it, what's going on and what's being said about her."

Still, it is not likely that Teresa will reimburse fans to have, say, a number eight tattoo removed, but Dale Jr. pleads with fans to lay off of Teresa. "It's about time we give Teresa a break."
