A First Ever Test For The Car of Tomorrow PDF Print E-mail

Kevin Harvick speaks to the media during Talladega testing.(DAYTONA BEACH, FL) -- The NASCAR Nextel Cup Series wrapped up a two days of testing at Talladega Superspeedway. Next month, the new Car of Tomorrow will get its restrictor-plate, debut at Talladega. Chase contender Kevin Harvick was pleased with his test session. "The car drives pretty well and everything seems to be fine," said Harvick.

On the other hand, Harvick believes it remains to be seen whether the COT stand up to a long restrictor-plate race. "It's just a matter of not having 500 miles with the engine and with the car...basically having nothing on the race track for that period of time. Obviously you can do all the testing you want but you can't really ever put it in race conditions."

A one-inch restrictor-plate was used for this week's test, but NASCAR Nextel Cup Series Director John Darby said a final decision on plate size has not been made. It could be the week leading up to the October 7th Talladega race before that final decision is made.
