The Top Four Talk About The Chase PDF Print E-mail
Written by David Horn

Image(NEW YORK, NY) -- The 2007 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series Chase For The Championship is finally here. Top seed Jimmie Johnson had some good good luck late in the Race To The Chase, but he knows there is no guarantee that will continue over the next 10 races. "Next week, this week, that can change and that's what I'm prepared for," said Johnson.

Does Johnson's teammate, and second seed, Jeff Gordon, have the right stuff to take his fifth Cup title? "That's my motivation this year is that I know we've got what it takes to do it," said Gordon.

Third seed Tony Stewart sized up the competition agreeing that Johnson and Gordon are obvious championship contenders, but admitted it does not stop with these two. "There's realistically six or seven guys, I feel like, that can pull this thing off," said Stewart.

Carl Edwards is one of those who could pull out a successful run for the tile. He is looking forward to Loudon this weekend and Dover next week, but has some concerns about track later on in the Chase. "Not so excited about Martinsville and Talladega just because those are tracks I feel like are going to be real bottlenecks. Guys could have bad days at those tracks," said Edwards.
