Edwards avoided a massive wreck on the Monster Mile, making him about the only Chase contender still running with 14 laps to go. His car failed a post-race inspection, so he may lose some points.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. landed a third place finish with what he claims was only an eighth place car at best. "Everybody was having a really hard time getting a consistency on each set of tires. You'd bolt on one set, the car would drive good, the next set, with no changes, you'd be wreckin', lose," said Earnhardt.

Jeff Gordon seized the points lead while Jimmie Johnson fell from first to fourth.
