(UPDATE) -- Anything can happen in the Chase for the Nextel Cup and Carl Edwards' win on Sunday and the way the points played out is a perfect example. Just two races into the Chase, Edwards' agrees, it's anybody game. "It seems like the field, the competition is getting closer and closer and there's less time split between the guy running first and the guy running 10th," said Edwards. It could be that a lot of the Chase contenders are learning how to play the Chase game. "Everyone's seen it happen and watched how guys have won it. I think everybody's points racing very well. People aren't making mistakes."

Tight doe not even begin to describe the Chase. Points leader Jeff Gordon leads second place Tony Stewart by only two points. third ranked Edwards trails Stewart by just one point. Fourth ranked Jimmie Johnson is behind Edwards by only one point. Add it up and Edwards is just three points away from first. "I just can't pick a guy out of that Chase that can't win the thing. I think that's why it's going to be tough and it's showing."

To put it into perspective, the top four drivers were separated by 18 points following last year's second Chase event. At this same point two years ago, that margin was 21 points. In 2005 the margin was 57 points.
