(UPDATE) -- Jeff Gordon's win at Talladega on Sunday gave him his 12th restrictor-plate victory, the most in Cup Series history. This passes the record set by Dale Earnhardt. "My very first restrictor-plate race I was racing Dale for the win at the Daytona 500. Even though I didn't have a chance to win it, I was there in the battle watching," said Gordon.

Gordon watched and learned, then combined that with the resources of Hendrick Motorsports. "That education started very early for me. Hendrick Motorsports has always given us cars, capable of being up front there."

While doing his victory burn-out on Sunday, Gordon said he only had one beer can thrown at his car. "I gotta admit I'm a little disappointed in that. They might be throwing Mountain Dew cans next year." This, of course, is in reference to Dale Earnhardt Jr. fans possibly transitioning to the beverage containers of Junior's new sponsor. Dale Jr. fans are often seen tossing objects at Gordon's car when Gordon wins a race.
