Bruton's Bombshell Plays Out PDF Print E-mail
Written by David Horn

Image(CONCORD) -- It is week two of the Lowes Motor Speedway/City of Concord controversy. Bruton Smith, the owner of the 47-year-old track, made a power play last week that set a race track full of wheels in motion. The Concord City Council said no to a new Smith proposed drag strip. Smith then threatened to move LMS. Now the city is considering incentives and just about anything to make Smith happy. "All of the mis-cues on this, I'm gonna admit it's caused me to think about this just a little bit different," said Concord Mayor Scot Padgett. By this, he means that without LMS, Concord and North Carolina would not have a motorsports industry. "I gives me a reason to stop and think, well, ya know, all of this wouldn't be here if we didn't have the track and we really traditionally haven't done anything here for the track owner."

Smith has been quiet this week as he watches Concord fill up an incentives goodie bag for him.
