Johnson's 3rd straignt Martinsville win.
(MARTINSVILLE, VA) -- The Subway 500 at Martinsville was plagued with cautions. The race ended under a race-record 21st caution. Jimmie Johnson was the chosen one after passing teammate and points leader, Jeff Gordon, with 44 laps to go. Johnson is now 53 points away from first place in the point standings. "It hasn't been an easy Chase for us, so I really feel if we can just have some smooth races and finish where we've been running, or where we should be running, we'll be a contender for this championship," said Johnson.

Ryan Newman won a duel with Jeff Gordon for a second place finish. "We had a decent car all day, but it was better up front, it was better when I had opportunity to maneuver a little bit with other lap cars and that helped a lot," said Newman. Some of that maneuvering caused a problem with third place finisher Jeff Gordon. "Well, that's what made me so mad is that it about took me out going down into one. I was mad at the time. We talked about it, it's all good now," said Gordon.

Kyle Busch finished fourth and Matt Kenseth came in fifth on Sunday.
