(UPDATE) -- The new car design, intended to increase competition and reduce costs in NASCAR's top series, runs the last of 16 scheduled races for 2007 this weekend at Phoenix. The Car of Tomorrow runs full-time starting next season and NASCAR's only planned changes to the car include improved cockpit heat management. "We don't anticipate any changes to any of the body, the templates, the chassis, the things of that nature," said NASCAR Vice President of Competition, Robin Pemberton.

Pemberton is happy with the performance of the COT in the car's first 15 races. "I think we've learned that the car is durable. I think we've learn that the drivers can be very aggressive with it."

Pemberton believes the COT is a big reason why Hendrick Motorsports drivers Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon are racing for the 2007 championship. "They have done the best job at crossing over between the current car and the Car of Tomorrow."
