(UPDATE) -- It was 23 years in the making. After Penske Racing owner Roger Penske finally got a car into Victory Lane at the "Great American Race," he felt like this might rank above his organization's 14 Indy 500 wins. "Coming down here, it's been touch. This has got to go to the top of the charts here," said Penske.
At the Daytona 500 Victory Breakfast on Monday, Penske communicated a clear goal for his organization. "What I'm gonna try and do this year (is) have them back to back. Do one in May, too. That's my real challenge right now." That would mean a 15th Indy 500 win to go along with his first Daytona 500 win. The Penske organization has dominated open wheel racing, but he believes they are getting closer to the likes of Hendrick and Gibbs in NASCAR. "I think this year we were confident that a lot of things had come together. We got a long way to go before we can sit at the table with those guy, but we're coming close."
