Dale Jarrett Leaves Competition Behind PDF Print E-mail
Written by David Horn

Dale Jarrett(UPDATE) -- Former Cup Series champion Dale Jarrett runs his final competitive race in Sunday's Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. The event marks his retirement as a driver. "When I climb from the car, I'm sure it's going to be pretty emotional," said Jarrett. But The 1999 Series champion said he's happy his last competitive race will be at Bristol. "It's the most special motor sports venue in the world as far as I'm concerned."

He has found it difficult to reflect on his 24-year career. "I've looked at it as a privilege and an honor to drive these cars, to make a living driving a race car."

Dale will follow his father, Ned, into the TV broadcast booth as an analyst for ESPN. "As far as actually being a competitor, which I've been all my life, it's going to be a difficult day on Sunday." He does have one more race after Sunday. He will run in the non-points all-star race at Lowes Motor Speedway in May.
