Paying For Roads PDF Print E-mail
Written by Matt Willoughby

(RALEIGH) -- A state commission on transportation says the legislature, in the upcoming session, needs to fund toll roads and approve bonds for highway projects. The Turnpike Authority has two projects ready to start but lacks the money to start building. The transportation commission was told the authority is short about $40 million.

At the same time the commission is considering tolls to build a new Yadkin River Bridge on I-85. Member Steve Zelnak said that was the best course. He said otherwise lawmakers would have to find $300 million to build it. The commission also says there should be over $1.5 billion in bonds approved for other highways.
