(LONG POND, PA) -- Imagine being a Cup Series driver right now. Last week they ran a grueling 600 miles at Lowes Motor Speedway. This week they take on the concrete monster at Dover International Speedway and next week they will run on the rough 2.5 mile Pocono Raceway for the first time in the new Car of Tomorrow. That's why teams spent two days putting the COT through the ringer at Pocono this week.
Second ranked Jeff Burton said the Pocono test was very important. "With the Car of Tomorrow, it's a harder deal when it's a rough race track and very few teams have any data from here," said Burton. Pocono's three unique turns and long straightaways is particularly challenging for the new car. "You get on the turn and they drive good and then the next time they're too loose and the next run they're too tight. It's really difficult, and I think this track is going to be one of our biggest challenges." Burton said the Pocono test kept the engineers busy. "I think we're here because the engineers want to be here. This is a very unique race track. There's nothing else like it."
