Ike Leads to Price Gouging Complaints PDF Print E-mail
Written by Bruce Ferrell

(YADKINVILLE) -- Hurricane Ike is causing speculation over supply, and that has caused gas prices to jump. Governor Easley has ordered the Attorney General's office to keep the state's price gouging laws that were implemented during Tropical Storm Hanna in place.

Easley says wholesale prices have only gone up 20-cents a gallon and consumers shouldn't be paying much more than that. However some stations in the Triad are charging as much as $4.69 for a gallon of regular unleaded, which is a dollar higher that the average price yesterday.

In Yadkinville police say stations are charging over 5-dollars a gallon Friday with at least one station charging $5.37. Police Chief Tim Parks says that its not up to the police to enforce the price gouging laws, that's up to the Attorney General's office. He says the number to call to report price gouging is 1-877-5-SCAM.
