Most Congressional Incumbents Hold Onto Seats PDF Print E-mail
(RALEIGH) -- Election night favored most congressional incumbents. Republican Howard Coble -- the Dean of the Congressional delegation -- will retain his seat, as will Republican Patrick McHenry.  Democratic Congressmen Mel Watt, Bob Etheridge, G.K.  Butterfield, Brad Miller, and David Price have all won their contests. But in District 8 it's another story. Democrat Larry Kissell took on Republican incumbent Robin Hayes. National Democrats backed Kissell this year, after he came within 329 votes of taking the seat two years ago in a low-budget campaign. Kissell capitalized on a struggling economy by knocking Hayes for backing trade legislation that he said has hurt the area's textile industry. Two years after the earlier failed attempt, Democrat Larry Kissell took incumbent Robin Hayes' seat.
