Well-wishes, hard work ahead for Obama, Congress PDF Print E-mail

(WASHINGTON)--Braving frigid temperatures, more than one million people packed Washington's National Mall to be part of history Tuesday as Barack Obama became America's first black president. "Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and begin the work of remaking America," President Obama told the masses.

The tone of Obama's speech is being praised by several members of North Carolina's congressional delegation.

Republican Congressman Walter Jones says his advice for the new President is to regain the confidence of Americans starting with an honest assessment of the work that lies ahead.

"If he can rebuild the trust of the American people, then I think he will have the support of the majority of people in this country. And the people know its going to be a long haul to return this country to its economic feet," said Jones.

The Republican, who is now serving his 8th term in Congress, says he loves this country and worries if Congress and the new Administration don't get the economy fixed --and soon--our children and grandchildren will not enjoy the quality of life we have today.

U-S Senator Kay Hagan also used the opportunity to urge her colleagues to work closely with the new administration.

"Our country is facing some of its greatest challenges in a generation. They will require bipartisan consensus and leaders working together, across the aisle, to achieve the real solutions we desperately need," said Hagan.
