(RALEIGH) -- A Mexico-based maker of non-woven textile cushioning plans to open a new facility in Burke County, creating 66 jobs in a county with one of the highest unemployment rates in North Carolina. Marves Industries will invest $1.75 million in the new plant which will utilize the former Bauer Industries building and equipment in Hildebran.
Gov. Bev Perdue made the announcement on Wednesday and confirmed that Marves is eligible for a $200,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund. “Our state’s trained workforce, top business climate and exceptional quality of life are spurring companies to expand here and create the good jobs our citizens have come to expect,” said Perdue. “North Carolina offers the ideal strategic location to cover 50 percent of the potential market that Marves Industries is interested in pursuing,” said Marves General Manager Elias Gomez. “The availability of the building, equipment and trained labor in Hildebran weighed heavily in the decision.” The latest unemployment rate in Burke county is 14 percent, according to the data from the North Carolina Employment Security Commission. The annual compensation for the new Marves jobs is expected to average $33,636, not including benefits, which is higher than the Burke County average annual wage of $30,628. |
