A Major Milestone For Gordon

Jeff Gordon Wins Phoenix

(PHOENIX, AZ) -- Jeff Gordon had several targets to hit at the Subway Fresh Fit 500. His win Saturday night at Phoenix International Raceway was his first since last July and his first at the Phoenix track. It was also his 76th career win which ties him with Dale Earnhardt for sixth place on the career wins list. "I've been wanting to pay honor and tribute to Dale for a long time because I think he is just the greatest," said Gordon.

He started the race from the pole position. This makes him the first driver ever to win from the pole at Phoenix. Gordon doesn't understand why nobody has ever won from the pole there before. "I know why I haven't won it from the pole before. We just didn't have the car to do it, or everything just didn't happen way it should have."

Saturday's win keeps Gordon leading Nextel Cup Series points by a solid margin.
