(RALEIGH)  --  The Department of Homeland Security says the death of Osama bin Laden could inspire retaliatory attacks against the U.S. and Western targets including airports. Mindy Hamlin at the Raleigh Durham International Airport says that security has been tight at the airport since the events September 11, 2001 terror attacks, but as of this morning there is no heightened alert at the terminal.

Hamlin says security is always a top priority at Raleigh Durham International Airport.  And today, the day after President Barack Obama's announcement that U.S. forces killed the most wanted man on earth, extra security is in place today at many locations around the United States. Hamlin says security is always on the minds of those in charge at RDU.

With regard to the spcific concerns of travelers flying through Raleigh Durham International Airport today, the RDU spokesperson added that passengers should continue, as per usual protocol, to arrive at the airport with plenty of time to move though security and go to the airport website to check on what they can and cannot carry on an airplane. Hamlin says passengers can get detailed information on cargo allowed on an aircraft at the TSA link on the airport website.

For international travelers, specifically to those already abroad, the State Department is urging U.S. citizens to limit their travel outside of their homes and hotels, and avoid mass gatherings, especially where anti-American violence is possible following the death of Osama Bin Laden.
