(RALEIGH) -- A bill that would shorten the early voting period by one week could see a few more changes before a final vote comes on the State House floor. Lawmakers delayed the final vote on the measure Monday night.

Bill sponsor Rep. Bert Jones said that he is currently considering several amendments. "I'm looking at some other possibilities.  For instance, (we) might want to keep election places open later in the evening or maybe add an additional Saturday.  We do want people to come out and vote and we like the idea of them voting early.  I just wanted to see if we might be able to tweak the bill a little bit," said Jones.

Lawmakers tentatively approved the bill by a 61-53 margin last week.
