(RALEIGH) -- As temperatures rise, so do health risks. Wake Med physician Dr. Scott Connelly says tells NCNN 100 degree tempertures are especially dangerous for the elderly.

"Most likely it's going to be better for them to stay inside.  Overall, the temperatures are going to be a little better.  It's really important that if they don't have air conditioning that they get somewhere potentially where they can get some air conditioning," said Connelly.

A heat advisory is in effect again Wednesday but is not as widespread when compared to Tuesday.  The hottest areas of the state on Wednesday are Fayetteville, Goldsboro and other areas of the Sandhills and Coastal Plain. A cold front is moving toward North Carolina is expected to help ease the heatwave a bit starting on Thursday.

Dr. Connelly urges everyone who must be outside to stay in the shade as much as possible, wear light colored clothing and stay well hydrated.
