(RALEIGH) -- A referendum that would add a gay marriage ban to the state constitution is expected to be a topic of discussion next week at the General Assembly. State Representative Bryan Holloway knows there will be some heavy protests against the potential amendment.

"We're already starting to see that somewhat in the newspapers. Most things in politics, you have those that are for it and those that are against it, and I think those that are against this will be very loud in their opposition. But do I think as a whole that the people in this state want the opportunity to vote on this? I think the answer is yes," he said.

However, Holloway says this is simply a matter of Democracy at work.

Holloway is this weekend's guest on Carolina Newsmakers, which can be heard on many NCNN stations.
