(RALEIGH) -- Forecasters say a tropical storm in the Atlantic could send dangerous surf and rip currents to Bermuda and the North Carolina coast. National Weather Service Meteorologist Phil Badgett reminds everyone that it is still hurricane season.

"We have to wait all the way until, sometimes we can even get one in December, but it would be a really rare event.  Anytime you have those warm waters lingering and any systems that move off the coast, we have to watch that," said Badgett.

Rough seas off the North Carolina coast could persist through at least Thursday. Tropical Storm Sean has brought a tropical storm warning for Bermuda.
