(HILLSBOROUGH) -- At the trial of Laurence Lovette Friday, Demario Atwater's former girlfriend testified that she saw Atwater and Lovette get rid of a gun after the murder of UNC student body president Eve Carson. Orange County District Attorney Jim Woodall showed Shanita Love a gun recovered by detectives.

"What do you recognize this to be?" Woodall asked.

"The .25 that Alvin had," Love replied.

"And is this the same gun that was thrown out that day?" asked Woodall.

"Yes," said Love.

Love was granted immunity from being charged as an accessory in the crime in exchange for her testimony. Demario Atwater is already serving two life sentences in connection with Carson's death. Lovette faces a similar fate if convicted.
