(RALEIGH) -- North Carolina now has its first toll road and more toll projects are slated around the state. Greer Beaty of the State Department of Transportation said a potential toll road in Monroe has shown the most signs of progress.

"We've sold bonds, we let contracts - that one is moving along at a really nice pace, pretty excited about that.  It's going to add a lot of possibilities to people in that part of the state," said Beaty. There are other toll roads planned for Gastonia, Currituck Sound and Wilmington.

Tolls on the recently opened portion of the Triangle Expressway will not begin being collected until January 3, 2012.
