(WINSTON-SALEM) -- Mitt Romney is expected to pick up Sen. John McCain's endorsement after a very narrow win in the Iowa caucuses. Romney beat Rick Santorum by just 8 vote. Wake Forest University Political Science Professor John Dinan said a strong finish in Iowa gives candidates a big campaign boost.

"What that leads to is often times an infusion of financial resources.  People begin donating to those candidates but it also leads to a coalescing of voters who had been considering other candidates.  They see those new candidates as the front runners," said Dinan.

Ron Paul came in third in Iowa, close behind Romney and Santorum. Newt Gingrich finished fourth, Rick Perry fifth and Michele Bachmann a distant sixth.
