(RALEIGH) -- A cold front is moving toward North Carolina. North Carolina News Network meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said this will bring an increased threat of isolated severe weather Wednesday night as the front begins to move west to east across the state.

"Our greatest risk from these thunderstorms would be damaging straight line winds, but we couldn't rule out some tornados.  They would be isolated.  We're not expecting a widespread outbreak but that is certainly a possibility," said Gardner.

The western part of the state could see severe weather between starting around 10 pm Wednesday with the remainder of the state experiencing potential storms through the overnight hours.  Gardner said this can be particularly dangerous since most people are sleeping. She urges everyone to have a weather radio or some sort of an alert system.
