(CHAPEL HILL) -- UNC-Chapel Hill students are reacting to the findings of an internal review at North Carolina which found academic fraud and poor oversight within an academic department linked to an NCAA investigation of the football program.

"I'm really surprised and disappointed," said one student. The investigation found many of the suspect classes were taught in the summer by former department chairman Julius Nyang'oro, who resigned in September.

UNC senior and African-American Studies major Sheri Myers tells News 14 Carolina that students say they haven't noticed any misconduct by teachers in the program. "Maybe it's attributable to one professor specifically, but it is not characteristic of the entire department," she said.

The report evolved from the athletic and academic scandal that engulfed UNC's football team, but it said there is no evidence that student-athletes received more favorable treatment than students who were not athletes.
