(RALEIGH) -- Cumberland County Sheriff’s Detectives are investigating a home invasion that happened in the Stedman community shortly after 2 a.m.

Patrick Paul Thomas, 25, of 6220 Bethany Drive was seriously wounded after being shot multiple times. Investigators say Thomas and his wife were asleep in their bedroom when someone entered their home and began firing gunshots.

Thomas was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center via ambulance where he is being treated for his injuries.

The investigation is continuing.
