(MOORESVILLE) -- Even the staunchest supporters of the Romney-Ryan ticket were awed by the crowds that turned out to get a glimpse of the Republican ticket on Sunday. Thousands of people showed up for events in Mooresville and High Point, and thousands more were turned away for a lack of space.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory traveled with the candidates and said he was amazed by the turnout.  "I was amazed at the enthusiasm and the sacrifices so many people made to get here and literally walk miles to get to this facility. I see momentum.  I see very strong momentum which will help this country and I think it will help us in North Carolina too," said McCrory.

A senior political adviser to President Barack Obama is likening Romney's selection of Ryan as his running mate to John McCain's choice of Sarah Palin. David Axelrod tells CBS This Morning that he recalls "that kind of excitement four years ago" when McCain presented Palin to the country as his choice for vice president.
