(RALEIGH) -- North Carolina farmers are celebrating a year of healthy crops and healthy profits, but they're also looking ahead to the future of their family businesses.
Larry Wooten, President of the North Carolina Farm Bureau, says farmers are hoping Congress will act on the federal estate inheritance tax.
"If this is not fixed on January 1, it is going to go back to a million dollar exemption and a million dollars for your spouse with a 55% tax rate. This would be devastating for our state's farmers and small businesses."
Wooten says a new Farm Bill and a guest worker program for immigrants are also on farmers' legislative wish list.
