Suspect Arrested In Shooting Of State Highway Patrolman

RALEIGH - Police have arrested a suspect in the shooting a State Highway Patrol trooper in Durham Monday night during a routine traffic stop near the intersection of U.S. 70 and Cheek Road.

There may be multiple suspects in this case.ABC11 reports that police were looking for Earlier, Durham police said they were looking for Mikel Edward Brady II, 23, of Vermont, who has a lengthy criminal record dating back to 2006. It is not known if he is the suspect in custody. The Woodfin Police Department in Buncombe County has reported that a woman named Lizzy Smith may have been traveling with Brady.

The state trooper shot is Michael Potts, an 11-year veteran assigned to Durham County. He underwent surgery at Duke University Hospital and is listed in stable condition. He was reportedly hit in the hand, shoulder and face.
